Born and raised in the Pittsburgh area, Dr. Carter earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State University before receiving his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2016.
Dr. Carter understands that many people feel anxious about dental visits or overwhelmed by treatment decisions. His goal is to make every appointment a positive experience through kindness, gentle care, and clear, easy-to-understand explanations. He believes every patient deserves a healthy smile and works together with each patient to reach that goal.
Outside the office, Dr. Carter enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, traveling, cheering on Pittsburgh and Penn State sports teams, and playing tennis.
Care for healthy smiles
Thoughtful preventive, restorative, and emergency care—explained in plain language.
Preventive care
Routine dental cleanings help keep your teeth clean and your gums healthy. Our team takes gentle care while removing plaque and tartar from hard-to-reach places, followed by a final polish. If it has been a long time since your last cleaning, more than one visit may be needed.
If cavities or active gum disease are present, we may need to stabilize those conditions first. Dr. Carter will review the best plan with you.
Periodontal treatment
Gum disease is an ongoing bacterial infection in the gums and bone around your teeth. When a routine cleaning is not enough, a deep cleaning may be recommended to remove tartar and bacteria below the gums and help stop the progression of disease.
Healthy gums support your smile and your overall health. Risk factors include plaque buildup, smoking, genetics, health conditions, and inconsistent home care.
Included with exams
During your dental exam, Dr. Carter checks for signs of oral cancer and other suspicious areas. He can also explain early warning signs and practical ways to reduce your risk.
Restorative dentistry
A tooth may need a filling if it has a cavity or is broken. Dr. Carter removes the decay and bacteria, then restores the tooth—usually with a natural-looking, tooth-colored material.
In some situations, a traditional silver filling may be the better option. We will always discuss that with you before treatment.
Protect and replace teeth
A crown, sometimes called a cap, restores and protects a tooth that is severely worn, cracked, broken, has a very large filling, or recently had root canal treatment. A bridge can replace a missing tooth by using the neighboring teeth for support.
Restore your smile
Full and partial dentures are custom-made to restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile. We offer traditional metal-frame partial dentures as well as metal-free cosmetic options, and we will explain the advantages of each.
Implants can sometimes help a denture snap into place for improved stability. Ask Dr. Carter whether implant-supported dentures may be an option for you.
Comfort-focused care
When a painful, infected, or badly broken tooth cannot be repaired, removal may be necessary. We perform most routine extractions in our office with local anesthetic, moving at your pace and keeping you as comfortable as possible.
Prompt evaluation
A broken tooth may be painful, embarrassing, or make it difficult to eat. Depending on the tooth, solutions may include a filling or crown. Some painful teeth have an internal crack or nerve damage that is not easy to see.
The sooner a broken tooth is evaluated, the better chance of preventing pain, infection, and tooth loss. We understand that broken teeth can be stressful, and our team will do everything we can to get you comfortable and back to smiling as quickly as possible.
Protect your teeth
Bruxism is a common condition in which patients clench or grind their teeth. Many people do this subconsciously at night while they sleep. A custom night guard, or bite splint, can be fitted to your teeth to help prevent damage caused by bruxism.
You may suffer from nighttime bruxism if:
Replace missing teeth
A dental implant is a durable, natural-looking option for replacing a missing tooth. After the implant is surgically placed and has healed, a custom-made crown is designed to blend comfortably with your smile.
